The 2016 Chicago Hunter Derby

We are thrilled to share that the 2016 Chicago Hunter Derby will take place on September 10 and 11 of this year! Stay tuned for many exciting details to come, but for now, take a look back at last year’s fantastic event that raised over $100,000 for charity!

The Chronicle of the Horse: Kelley Farmer Goes 1-2-3 At USHJA Chicago International Hunter Derby

Antioch, Ill.—Sept. 6   

Kelley Farmer was on fire at the $50,000 USHJA Chicago International Hunter Derby, and it wasn’t just due to the 91 degree temperatures in Illinois. The powerhouse rider took the top three places, with her super horse Mindful grabbing the top spot, and Dalliance and So To Speak taking second and third, respectively.

Despite galloping six horses total around the course in the gorgeous, massive field at Annali-Brookwood Farm, Farmer was still in good spirits as she stopped to talk about her winning day and the whirlwind work loaded schedule it took to get there.

“I’m warm, a little warm, I have to say. But I don’t know what to do with idle time or sitting down, and I don’t like the gym, so this is how I stay fit, and I have to do a lot of horses to stay fit!” Farmer said with a laugh.

The feature event is the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby hosted by Chicago Equestrians for a Cause, a philanthropic group raising funds for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital Of Chicago, the United States Hunter Jumper Association Foundation (USHJAF) and the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation. The organization has helped to raise over $500,000 in contributions in its six-year history. The Chicago Hunter Derby was also inducted into the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame this past May, as the Best Derby for 2014.
